rider code of conduct

  • Mission Statement

To promote safe mountain biking as a tool for youth development, foster good moral character, leadership, and sportsmanship, and to get more kids on bikes.

Code of Conduct

Members of St. Croix Composite MTB will follow a code of conduct that enforces respect, high moral and ethical character, and teaches each rider to be an all-around positive member of society.

  1. Helmet must be properly worn and buckled anytime your leg is over the top tube of your bike.
  2. WALK your bike across roads unless instructed by coaches to cross in a different manner.
  3. Jump Lines are off limits during practice. If caught on a jump-line during practice, there is an automatic 2-week suspension. These trails are as follows but not limited to; the Grandstand, Shake and Bake, and the new Fox Trail jump-line at Whitetail, and the Bass trails at Willow. The skills park at Kinnicinnic Start Park is off-limits unless supervised/approved by a coach.
  4. All riders need to support each other in a positive way to promote confidence and a positive team culture.
  5. All riders are expected to stay with their coach and group unless a detailed plan is communicated by your ride group leader.
  6. If a rider needs to leave early, communicate that with your coach. The coach will do their best to get you back to the pick-up area.
  7. If you show up late to practice, you CANNOT JOIN unless you are with a coach. Coaches are responsible for you at practice, and they need to know if you are on the trail.
  8. Hydration at practice is mandatory. A water bottle (or 2 if needed) or a hydration pack is required to ride at practice. You will be sidelined for the day if you don’t have water.
  9. Riders should let their coach know of any injuries before practice so that accommodations can be made to prevent making the injury worse.
  10. In addition to our team rules listed above, we follow the Minnesota cycling association’s student athlete code of conduct as well. The MCA Student Code of Conduct can be found here: MCA Sporting Regulations

Enforcement of Student Conduct

Except for violations of rule 3, or any other violation deemed by the coaching staff to be overwhelmingly detrimental to the team, the following process will be utilized for student athlete discipline:

1st Violation: Verbal and written warning to the student and their parent(s)/guardian explaining what the violation was and the consequences of any future violations.

2nd Violation: Verbal and written letter to the student and their parent(s)/guardian, as well as a referral to the St. Croix Composite MTB board to discuss a 2-week suspension from all activities related to the St. Croix Composite MTB team.

3rd Violation: Verbal and written letter to the student and their parent(s)/guardian, as well as a referral to the MTB board to discuss the athlete’s removal from the team for the remainder of the season.

Any suspensions/removals from the team will bar the student athlete from participating in practices, any official team sponsored event, and competition in any upcoming races that would be held during the suspension and/or removal. The above-described discipline process can be modified at any time, i.e. 1st Violation steps can be skipped, and the student-athlete can be referred to the board for discussion of heavier sanctions.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR ANY STUDENT ATHLETE SUSPENDED OR REMOVED FROM THE TEAM
